Tiptree Tearooms | Southwold
The Wilkin family began making their famous preserves in the 1800s and the familiar jars are a staple at breakfast tables around the globe, but did you know they also run 11 tearooms across Essex and now Suffolk?
Picturesque Southwold is the newest location for the brand and Wilkin & Sons chose to take advantage of GS Contracts’ 25 years’ experience in retail and hospitality design and installation to complete the fit out of their premises on the bustling High Street.
In just five weeks we transformed a dark, tired space, installing a new front counter, fitting wall panelling around the room and completely rewiring, as well as laying new flooring and totally redecorating the tearoom and outdoor area: And all of this was on-time and on-budget. Take a look at the pictures to see the progress of the work and the finished result:
We are particularly proud of the cleverly stepped counter, which maximises display space without creating too much of a barrier between the servers and customers, while the delicate cut-out partitions continue the light and airy theme of the spring-like decoration, with the flower-clad column and light sage green furniture. Through stunning French doors customers can access a beautifully decked area which allows tea to be taken al fresco.
“[GS Contracts] helped us to come up with design solutions to meet our budget without compromising quality. They also liaised very well with our kitchen designer to make sure everything was accurate and worked practically when it came to the fit out and final install.”
Tiptree’s Head of Tea Room Development is delighted with the finished result, “We are extremely happy that the fit-out was executed as per our design with special consideration given by GS Contracts to the things we may not have necessarily thought about. They helped us to come up with design solutions to meet our budget without compromising quality. They also liaised very well with our kitchen designer to make sure everything was accurate and worked practically when it came to the fit out and final install.”
The Tea Room Team were similarly impressed with the efficiency with which we work: “We experienced fantastic communication from GS throughout the project in every aspect but particularly around any variations, costings, progress and program timings. Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff and they were always extremely accommodating with various requests. The shop fit was completed on time, on budget with no fuss or complications and we required no call backs for snagging.”
An on-time, on budget fit-out with no snagging at all? That deserves afternoon tea, at the very least, surely? The only question left to answer is, do you spread the jam and then the cream, or…?
