It’s always a buzz to work with clients who have been pleased with our work before and asked us back for help on a further project.
Not only have we completed installations at the 1 Finsbury Avenue building before, but we have also worked on a fit-out for the Yolk chain of restaurants before too! This then, was our second shop for the Yolk brand.
Yolk is the gourmet grab-and-go specialists who serve up their signature poached eggs pots and craft coffee to hungry commuters, students and tourists, with a keen emphasis on big flavours and restaurant quality preparation.

A New Hub
As part of the Broadgate masterplan, encouraging mixed-use tenants into the iconic 1 Finsbury building, Yolk has a new hub, and we were the ones to create it. This small shop has been created with easy-to-clean tiled walls and floor and a kitchen at the back, in keeping with Yolk’s emphasis on fresh, quality ingredients prepared on-site. We also made the most of the space by creating a storage area in the basement.
The star of this show, however, is the outside seating area: We designed and built 6 metre by 6 metre bespoke metal planters that act as the barriers that form the patio area, where those who can linger a little longer over their hot box or ultimate sandwich, can sit and enjoy their meal.
The Perfect Foil
Yolk started in a shipping container, but the design and décor of the latest branch shows just how far they’ve come. With signature yellow accents, like stool cushions and paintwork, and warm, low hanging globe lighting, the glazed screens and corrugated metalwork complete the fresh, modern look.
Founder Nick Philpot explains that working with GS Contracts was the right fit: “Yolk was born out of a desire for serious take-away food that didn’t compromise on flavour. GS Contracts’ commitment to quality work and ability to think outside the box was the perfect foil to our design vision.”
