Seven Layer

We recently completed this retail fit out for the men’s luxury clothing store 7L (SEVEN LAYER).

Located in Alderley Edge, 7L is an innovative menswear apparel which takes inspiration from the US Military’s extended cold weather clothing system which began in the 1980’s.

Lockdown Disturbance

The initial plan was for owner, Jamie Lundy to open a pop-up store before Christmas 2020. As a result, the GS team got straight to work on-site for a two-week period before our Christmas shutdown.

The shopfront was completed along with the signage (carried out by Saltaire Signs) for the store to open, but unfortunately due to government restrictions this couldn’t take place and the opening of the store was postponed.

Come 2021, despite a national lockdown and the extra challenges that we had to face, we successfully completed the remaining few weeks of work. Delivering a practical yet stylish retail store, fit for functional use.

Clever Capacity and Unique Displays

With works commencing again in early January, the fitting of joinery items and metalwork manufactured in our workshop, began. Practical low-level units were installed around the shop for storage space, along with a platformed bespoke table at the rear of the store. A longer bespoke table located in the centre was also installed, taking up a large length of the store.

Having plenty of expertise working with metalwork, we also produced the hanging rails which were fitted around the perimeter of the store. Cut with the “7L” logo and mounted to the ceiling above the low-level units, we provided Jamie with unique, branded displays to hang clothing.

Obstacles along the way

Business Development Manager, Gavin Caiger-Barker explained that the project did come with its extra difficulties. Navigating the fit-out around the pandemic meant implementing changes in the way we work, in order to adhere to rules and regulations. We faced the challenge of maintaining social distancing measures within a small store- whilst remaining to timescales, budgets, and the high-quality standard of work. Being the first store for the brand with such a unique look, we ensured everything was up to a flawless standard before the handover.

Working alongside the fantastic design team at BusbyWebb and having worked on previous projects together, made bringing the owners visions to life that little bit easier.

Despite the challenges we faced, we are all extremely pleased with the finished result and how everything tied together.
