Project News: Bala Baya Restaurant, Southwark
5 ratings

We recently completed a full interior fit-out for a new Middle-Eastern restaurant in London: Bala Baya. The restaurant is located in the heart of Southwark, near the old Union Street arches.

Bala Baya serves authentic Middle Eastern cuisine throughout the day, with a quick-stop bakery and signature pitta snacks, sit-down lunches and brunches, plus a full restaurant service and cocktail bar in the evenings.

The venue has huge arched ceilings, so the interior is split across two floors: there’s a casual dining area, open kitchen and cocktail bar downstairs, plus a mezzanine floor upstairs for sit-down meals.

Award-winning studio Afroditi Krassa created the branding and designed the restaurant itself; the Bauhaus-style interior mimics the atmosphere and energy of bustling street cafés in Tel Aviv. For authenticity, we imported many items from Israel, including traditional breeze blocks for a feature wall and a range of endemic plants.
