This month we did some unusual work for Colchester Archaeological Trust: we manufactured some large metal cut-out figures for the Roman Circus Visitor Centre in Colchester. The Centre is the site of Britain’s only known Roman Circus chariot-racing track. Visitors can see the remains of the original circus and a variety of archaeological finds, with interactive displays and a large-scale model of the circus.

Roman Circus overview

The figures are being set on a metal frame, and they will represent the audience of spectators in the model of the circus. Here they are on the grass, waiting to be hoisted into position:

This is not the first metalwork we’ve done for Colchester Archaeological Trust: we previously manufactured a charioteer and horses for them!
