In 2015 we were delighted to be the primary contractor for Lurra, a new venture from the owners of renowned Spanish restaurant Donostia, located in Seymour Place (behind Marble Arch).

The Client

Lurra (meaning “land” in Basque) was conceived as a sister restaurant to Donostia, and is located opposite in the same street. Lurra’s influence is traditional Basque charcoal/wood grills called “Erretegias”; its aim is to serve authentic, natural and well-sourced produce.

Our Role

We were the primary contractor for this project. We worked closely on the planning and design with the owners from the start. We then undertook the complete fit-out, including installation, bespoke manufacturing, furnishings, floors, tiling, decor and finishes.

The Interior

The interior is spread across three floors and benefits from plenty of natural light, giving it an airy and spacious feel.

In addition to the formal dining area, there is also a drinks bar, and further seating in a library area filled with books.

The kitchen was installed by our colleagues at CCE Group. It includes a dry-ageing fridge which displays Lurra’s amazing speciality Basque and Galician beef. Diners have the option to sit on comfy bar-stools and watch the chefs at work.

Other Work

Additional seating is provided upstairs; other key areas of work included creating a wine cellar in the basement, and (of course!) fitting customer restroom facilities.

Materials and Finishes

The interior uses natural materials such as wood, marble and stone – including specially selected oak timber from Danish company Dinesen. As part of our role, we ensured the restaurant’s finishes were of an exceptionally high standard throughout.

We fitted the main staircase ourselves – with oak treads and risers with brass inserts and a brass balustrade. We also created feature wall planking alongside across two floor levels.

Lurra has a spacious private courtyard outside with additional dining seating; the area is decorated with planters to give it a natural feel.

We were delighted to be involved with such a high-profile project! Since it opened, Lurra has received fantastic reviews in a long line of national publications and websites – and we look forward to its continued success!
