Case Study: Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream kiosk
Project: A Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream kiosk to be located in Madrid Airport. (This project was in conjunction with Lockhart Catering Equipment.)
Brief: To design, manufacture and install a permanent ice-cream kiosk, consistent with the distinctive Ben & Jerry’s branding.
Comments: We designed the kiosk in the shape of a giant tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream. It was manufactured and painted in our workshops before being transported to Madrid (along with our own installation team!) where it was installed overnight.

Project Details
Manufacturing: The kiosk had to be built and fully-functional here in our workshops before it was shipped to Madrid for installation. The kiosk was mainly fabricated from chipboard formers clad with MDF – built around a pre-finished ice-cream freezer component imported from Italy.

Painting: After the initial built we had to dismantle it ready for spraying blue, before rebuilding it. We then added vinyl fields, clouds and cows – key parts of the Ben & Jerry’s branding.
Transportation: The kiosk was transported by lorry, but our team flew out to Madrid to fit it themselves. They weren’t able to take tools in their hand-luggage (for obvious reasons!), but rather than hiring them locally it actually proved more reliable and cost-effective to transport all our fitting equipment separately – including our own steps and safety hoardings!

Installation: The installation was a challenge because the kiosk is airside, so it had to be fitted at night in the least amount of time possible, in order to avoid disruption to passengers. We were glad we sent our own team to install the kiosk, because they are very used to doing a great job under such conditions and with very tight time constraints.

Final Comment: We really enjoyed working on such a fun project for such a worldwide and well-known brand as Ben & Jerry’s!
